Wat is de betekenis van een soft machine voor een groep jonge kunstenaars? Voor het derde keer op rij werken HKU en Impakt samen aan een presentatie in de Academiegalerie. In deze groepspresentatie geven derde- en vierdejaars studenten van de afstudeerrichting Fine Art, samen met studenten van de MaHKU, hun visie op ‘Soft Machines’, het festivalthema van Impakt 2014. In de Boiler Room, een onderzoekssituatie in de Academiegalerie, onderzoeken zij de relatie tussen mens en machine, startend met de vraag: waar schuilen empathische kwaliteiten in het samenspel tussen kunst, technologie en mens? Van 24 oktober tot en met 2 november wordt de ontmoeting met het publiek onderdeel van deze intensieve laboratoriumsituatie, waar experimenten getest, objecten blootgesteld en processen op gang gebracht worden.

What is a soft machine for a group of young artists? For the third time in a row, HKU and Impakt work together on a presentation in Academiegalerie. In this group presentation third and fourth year students of the Fine Arts department, together with students from MaHKU, present their visions on the festival topic Soft Machines. In the research format of a Boiler Room they investigate the relationship between human beings and machines, working with the question: what are empathetic qualities in the interaction between art, technology and human beings? From 24th October until the 2nd of November, the public will have the possibility to become part of this intensive laboratory situation, in which experiments are tested, objects exposed and processes put into further operation.
